Extra, extra, read all about it
My friend Wolfgang is an indie film director. We met a couple of years ago. I like hanging out with him because he's so creative and he's got this brash personality that masks a teddy bear of a guy. He'd hate that I've written that, but it's true.
If you know me, you know how much i love movies and that i want to get my screenplay made. The whole world of film making intrigues me quite a bit, so when Wolfgang asked me to be in his latest project, i was totally on board.
He's filming a few music videos for the Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts Film Festival as seen on Youtube.
Of course, since I'm still jet lagging I slept through both of my alarms, and to my horror, awoke at 9:05...making me late for the 9am set call. I tried to call him and the casting director to let them know, but getting no reply, I decided to drive the 30 minutes to the set location just in case I could still participate. After driving around the Lindenwood campus for about 20 minutes looking for them, I finally happened upon the set at 10 and, thankfully, I was still invited to be "girl with noose". That's right, only my second time as an extra, and I have a title...sweet!
I had a great time on the set. Everyone was so nice, and even though I had to wield my noose while running in heels up a street and down a huge hill while chasing a man, the day was a success. And the food we had for lunch was just the icing on the cake. I must say, though, that even though I dreamed of becoming an actress when I was a young girl, I can tell you without question, there is no way that acting is the career for me. I felt rather foolish as I ran down the street, and for all of Wolfgang's coaxing to look more menacing and shout obscenities (you know i have no issues cussing), I just couldn't find it in me.
P.S. The first movie in which i was an extra was a low-budget film starring "What's Happening" Fred "Rerun" Berry. I was on the beach in L.A. in the summer of 1983 when a casting director started gathering up girls to be extras. At the time, the working title was "Tight Genes", but in the end, this straight to beta movie was called..."A Stroke of Genius".
